Khatti Meeti Dal

This is a Gujarati style dal which is sour and sweet. The sourness is from the tamarind and the sweetness is from the jaggery. One of the best dal combination to go with Indian breads of varieties of Indian rice.


  • Ghee
  • Hing
  • Dry Red Chillies
  • Mustard Seeds
  • Methi Seeds
  • Jeera Seeds
  • Curry Leaves
  • Roasted & Broken Peanuts
  • Chopped Sweet Tomatoes
  • Turmeric Powder
  • Sea Salt
  • Red Chilli Powder
  • Tamarind Paste
  • Grated Jaggery
  • Dal
  • Purified Mineral Water
  • Dab of Butter


  • In a fry pan add ghee, hing, dry red chillies, mustard seeds, curry leaves, methi seeds, and jeera seeds.
  • Add chopped tomatoes, dal, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, tamarind paste, grated jaggery and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Add water & salt as per consistency and taste.
  • Add a dab of butter before serving.
